Meet Keith Stephenson, CBT

Expertise

I started my love for the broadcast industry in 1993. Like many in the broadcast industry, I started out as a board operator while I went to school at Broadcast Center in St Louis. My first job was board operating at KSLQ in Washington MO. There, I would spend my Saturdays board opping Mizzou games, and when they were over I would do a short air shift playing music off of reel to reels and a few CDs. From there I got a full time job at KTUI in Sullivan MO. I worked evenings in their old faciity just off of I44. From there I would go to WJBB in Haleyville AL, KQMX in Rolla, KKID in Rolla, and  KFLW in St Robert MO. Other stops in my on air career included KMOZ in Cuba, KZNN in Rolla MO and the producer of the Dave Weinbaum Show.

25 Years ago I took an interest that would change my life forever. I became interested in the technology side of the broadcast industry. I decided my life to learn hands on from some of the best in the industry. At that time I started working for a contract broadcast engineer that did engineering work in 5 states with clients that included TBN, Bott Radio Network, Clear Channel (now Iheart Media), Dockens Media, Mahaffey Enterprises among others. I spent endless hours learning as much as I could about broadcast transmitters, wiring studios and consoles, proper legal procedures for the FCC, automation systems and much more. A few years ago I spent a week in Birmingham AL taking courses in broadcast radio and obtained my CBT (Certified Broadcast Technician) from the Society of Broadcast Engineers

Since this time I have had experience working in a Network Operations Center at Learfield IMG College where I was responsible for getting news, farm and sports broadcasts uplinked to satellite for distribution to broadcast stations Ross the country. I also assisted broadcast stations with syncing their satellite receivers to their automation receivers and taking games with an online media player that fed subaudible relays. The last full time job I had in a broadcast facility was with Zimmer Midwest Communications in Springfield. There I was responsible for a 6 station cluster taking care of all of the transmitters and tower sites. I was also in charge of upgrading all of their studios from an older analog facility to a newer VoIP Wheatnet system.

Personally, I am a 1991 graduate of Owensville High School. In 2016 I got my Associates degree from Drury University in Springfield, then in 2019 I got my bachelors Degree in Mass Media Communications from Full Sail University in Winter Park FL. I have been married to my wife Marissa for 20 years. Together, we have 8 children and 14 grandchildren and counting! I like to play music, woodwork and fish in my spare time.
